Barber Half Dollar

The Barber Half Dollar was minted from 1892 to 1916 along with the Barber Dime and Barber Quarter. The Barber series was designed by Charles E. Barber, who is their namesake.

The obverse of the half dollar features a Liberty head with a cap and wreath. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed on the headband, which wears quickly from most coins. The obverse also features 13 stars, 6 to the left of the Liberty head and 7 to the right. The date is centered below. The reverse features a heraldic eagle, just like the quarter, with "HALF DOLLAR" below. There are a field of 13 stars above the eagle and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is printed across the top.

The Barber series features few mint marks or other aberrations. Some of the Barber Dimes are highly valuable but that is not the case for the half dollar.
