Barber Quarter

The Barber Quarter, named after it's designer, Charles E. Barber, was minted from 1892 to 1916. The coin is also sometimes referred to as the Liberty Head Quarter Dollar. The Barber series also included a dime and half dollar. Barber was asked to design the coins after a failed attempt by US mint to have ten prominent United States artists give them designs.

The Barber Quarter features a Liberty Head with a cap and wreath. The word "LIBERTY" appears on the headband and is used frequently by collectors to determine a coins value, since it is the highest wear point on the coin. The reverse features an eagle with "QUARTER DOLLAR" below it. Both sides of the coin feature 13 stars.

Few coins from the Barber series feature a mint mark. If the mark is present, it will be located under the "QUARTER DOLLAR" marking on the reverse.

Due to heavy and long term usage, there are not many high grade Barber Quarters still in existence. Most surviving examples are heavily worn.
