The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted from 1916 to 1947. The coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman. The coin features Lady Liberty walking (thus the name) and carrying an olive branch. The reverse features a perched bald eagle. Weinman's mark, AAW, appears under the eagle's wings.
The Walking Liberty design is widely considered the best design of all American silver coinage. The design was also used for the American Silver Eagle.
The coin was minted in three locations, those locations and their mint marks are: Denver (D), San Francisco (S) and Philadelphia (no mark). The mint mark is located under "In God We Trust" on the obverse for the 1916 and 1917 edition. It was moved to the reverse in mid 1917. It is located on the upper left of "HALF DOLLAR" on the reverse side.
